Most Tanzanian couples plan their wedding over 9 to 18 months. A typical timeline runs as follows: 12–18 months out you set the budget, guest count and wedding date; 9–12 months you book the venue and photographer; 6–9 months you confirm catering, décor, and traditional ceremony arrangements (send-off, kamati and introductions); 3–6 months you finalise attire, invitations, and the seating plan; and in the final 4 weeks you confirm timings with every vendor and prepare the guest travel plan. Peak season in Tanzania runs from June to September and December to January, so popular Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar venues are often booked out a year in advance.
Book 9–12 months before the wedding, and up to 15 months for December or August dates. Venues in Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and Arusha fill quickly during peak season, and deposits usually confirm the date.
Wedding budgets vary widely with guest count and venue. A common rule is to allocate roughly 8–12% to photography and film, with the venue, catering and décor taking the largest share. Our free budget planner breaks each category down in Tanzanian shillings.
